Mulberry Academy of Culinary Arts is an Occupational AP Course
through ProStart and ServSafe
The ProStart Program, implemented through the NRAEF- National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation & FRLAEF– Florida Restaurant and Lodging Association Educational Foundation, introduces
high school students to careers in the restaurant and food service industry. It teaches basic skills and knowledge needed to achieve success through on-the-job training and experience coupled with a dynamic and comprehensive curriculum. Developed to increase the quality and employability of today’s high school graduates, the ProStart program provides instruction in 25 subject areas ranging from basic food preparation, accounting and cost control, to sanitation and workplace safety. The classroom comes alive with job relevant lessons. Textbooks, Grants, Skill Workshops, Scholarships and Competitions are numerous opportunities offered to our ProStart students through FRLAEF.
Upon completion of the ProStart curriculum and the certification examination, students receive a nationally recognized ProStart Certificate (similar to AP). Students may then enter the food service/hospitality industry, the work force, or continue their education at an institute of higher learning. Another industry certification offered through ProStart is the ServSafe Manager which again, helps the student stand out from the rest and accelerate their success.
The MHS Panther's Pantry Catering is mentored by Carter's BBQ, Texas Cattle Company and Bob Evans Restaurant, active members of the Polk County Chapter of FRLA.
